Kilaben Bay takes its name from the Awabakal word ‘killibinbin’, which council’s history entry, citing the missionary Lancelot Threlkeld, gives as meaning ‘bright’ or ‘shining’. St Joseph’s Catholic church and primary school moved here from Toronto in the mid-1980s. The same entry records a 2003 council grant to the local Landcare group to revegetate Kilaben Park, and a 2004 federal grant to rehabilitate Kilaben Creek and build a boardwalk.
