Local context

Buttaba: what to know before a plumbing job

Henry Halloran named his 1920 subdivision Buttaba Hills, with the English Garden City movement shaping the design, and many of its streets took the names of UK towns that shared mining and industry with Lake Macquarie. A second Halloran plan followed in 1922, and Lakelands Ltd developed Welwyn Close in 1976. A jetty once stood at the estate on the western side of Secret Bay. The 2021 Census counted 1,204 residents, and 97.9% of occupied dwellings were separate houses. Plans from 1920, 1922 and 1976 sit side by side, so it is worth seeing what a house already has before new plumbing is planned.
