Specialist plumbing & gas, Central Coast Gas, stormwater and the jobs most plumbers hand off.

Josh holds both a plumbing licence and a gas fitting licence, covering the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie. That is why gas appliances, stormwater and backflow stay one crew, one quote, one certificate.

The specialist scope

The jobs that do not fit a neat box.

Specialist work is the plumbing that sits past the everyday: pumps and filtration systems, gas fitting and appliance changeovers with the compliance certificate, backflow prevention testing and TMV servicing lodged with the water authority, and CCTV drain inspection that finds the actual cause instead of guessing at it. These are the jobs where the licence, the gear and the paperwork matter as much as the spanner work.

What stays with other trades: electrical work on pump motors is referred to an electrician, and major drainage excavation beyond a straightforward repair is scoped and quoted separately rather than absorbed into a small-job price.

Leak detection and backflow

Find the leak, then fix or certify the device. A burst or leaking pipe is located and repaired, and access and pipe type decide the price, which is fixed before the work starts: see the price guide. If water is coming in now, read what to do before we arrive. A gas smell is licensed gas fitting work, and annual tests on a testable device are backflow testing and certification, lodged with the water authority.

What it costs

Specialist work is quoted as a fixed price once the job is scoped. Compliance items are predictable: annual backflow testing runs $130–$220 in the price guide and CCTV drain inspection $250–$450. Diagnostics are priced and agreed before the repair is quoted, so you are not paying twice for the same finding.

Recent work

Recent specialist work includes backflow prevention testing and TMV servicing lodged with the water authority, gas appliance changeovers certified to AS/NZS 5601 across LPG and natural gas, and CCTV inspection and clearing on drains that kept coming back.

On backflow: a testable backflow prevention device on the water service at the property boundary in Belmont North, and a boundary backflow assembly in a garden bed at Budgewoi. On gas: twin 45 kg LPG cylinders on an automatic changeover regulator at Mannering Park, with the compliance plate fixed alongside. At Woongarrah, a mains-pressure pump, pressure vessel, multi-stage filtration and UV sterilisation with a full bypass sorted out low water pressure that other plumbers had said could not be fixed. At Millfield, about 70 m of new stormwater connects 8 downpipes, with surface inlet points and clear-outs for cleaning.

How the job runs

Diagnose first, then price.

  1. Describe the problem

Symptoms, photos, model numbers if you have them. Half of specialist diagnosis starts with good information.

  2. Inspect and diagnose

Camera, pressure test or hands-on inspection so the fix is aimed at the cause, not the symptom.

  3. Fixed price

The repair or replacement is quoted once we know what the job actually is.

  4. Fix and document

The work done, tested, and certified or lodged where the job requires it.

Specialist plumbing FAQs

My job seems to sit between trades. Who do I call?

Start with us if it touches water, drainage or gas. The awkward jobs are often the ones a specialist-scope plumber covers best: filtration systems that need pump and pipe work together, gas changeovers that need certification, drainage that needs CCTV before anyone digs. If it is outside our scope, we will say so straight.

Do you service pumps and filtration systems you did not install?

Yes. House-pressure pumps, transfer pumps and undersink or whole-house filters are serviced and replaced regardless of who put them in. Where the parts have been superseded we will tell you before quoting a like-for-like replacement.

Is specialist work priced the same way as general plumbing?

Same rule: a fixed price before we start. Where a fault needs diagnosing first, for example a drain that keeps blocking, the diagnostic step is priced separately and agreed so you are not paying for guesswork.

Can you do backflow testing on a residential property?

Yes. The same accredited test and lodgement applies whether the device is on a commercial site or a home supply. Reports go to Central Coast Council or Hunter Water depending on where the property sits.

A drain keeps blocking. What next?

That is the CCTV case: camera the line, see whether it is tree roots, a collapsed section or just buildup, then quote the actual fix. Clearing it again without looking just buys a few months.
