What it costs

Recent work
At Woongarrah, other plumbers had told the owner nothing could be done about the low water pressure. We fitted a mains-pressure pump and pressure vessel, then multi-stage filtration with UV sterilisation and a full bypass, set out along one garage wall. A BWT UV20 steriliser sits over twin filter housings teed off the copper bypass, with isolation valves throughout and the manifold labelled potable. The Woongarrah photos on this page are that job. On a three-room renovation at Bateau Bay, we installed a new rainwater tank and pump with a pressure control switch and a rain-to-mains changeover system, redesigned the existing downpipes to feed the tank and added a yard tap. The Bateau Bay photos show it before and after.

Can low water pressure actually be fixed?
Often, yes, once we know why it is low. At Woongarrah the owner had been told by other plumbers that nothing could be done. A mains-pressure pump and a pressure vessel dealt with the pressure, with the filtration and UV set up behind them on a bypass. What decides the answer is the supply itself, which is why we look at it before quoting.
Is this for town water, tank water or a bore?
All three. Town water that arrives soft and then dies at the shower gets a mains-pressure pump and vessel. Tank and bore supplies usually want filtration and UV as well, because the pump is only half the job. We look at the supply before we quote the train.
What does a typical whole-home setup include?
A booster or mains-pressure pump, a pressure vessel so the pump is not short-cycling, two or three filter housings, a UV chamber, and a bypass with isolation valves so you can change cartridges without shutting the house down. Copper manifold, potable labels, tested before we leave.
