Wangi Power Station was officially opened on 7 November 1958 after about ten years of construction, closed in 1986, and is on the State Heritage Register. Hundreds of workers came for the build and were housed in Railways quarters and a tent city. Before that, Wangi Wangi was a weekender and Christmas camping spot for coalfield families, with subdivision from 1916. Sir William Dobell’s house at 47 Dobell Drive is on the register too. A cottage that began as a weekender and became a permanent home may have been added to piece by piece, so its supply and drainage are worth tracing before a renovation.
