Local context

Fassifern at a glance, for plumbing work

Fassifern is probably named after the town of Fassifern in the Scottish Highlands, though council says by whom cannot be verified. Its station opened in 1887 as Wyee and took the present name in March 1888, and the Northumberland company’s shafts on the western side saw the first use of electricity in a northern mine. Council gives 1928 for the water supply. The draft Teralba to Toronto Climate Resilience Plan (June 2025) names Fassifern among the suburbs most vulnerable to lake level rise, so drainage and sewer connections near the shore are worth checking.
