Local context
The 2021 Census counted 765 people in Marmong Point, and 259 of its 297 occupied private dwellings were separate houses. The point was part of Captain James Mitchell’s land, bought in 1836, and its section was sold in 1888 to two policemen who subdivided it into home sites. A 2010 study of Lake Macquarie used water-level records from Belmont and Marmong Point and reported a mean spring tide range of 0.12 m in the lake in 2008, against 1.23 m in the ocean.
