Local context

Cardiff at a glance, for plumbing work

Council’s local history lists four main collieries at Cardiff, and in 1928 the NSW Government Railway Works moved to a site near the town. The place began as Winding Creek, after the stream through the valley, then became Lymington after one of the mines. The name Cardiff was adopted in 1889 on the suggestion of a Mr Edwards, who came from Cardiff in Wales. Hunter Water owns the open section of Munibung Creek from Pendlebury Road to Gorleston Terrace in Cardiff, and it runs behind houses on Lachlan Road. If a block backs onto a creek, check where its stormwater pipes discharge.
