Local context

Plumbing in Lakelands: the local picture

Lakelands began in 1989 as an estate built around an artificial lake, on former mining company land owned by Investpec Pty Ltd, with Don Fox Planning as the major developer. Its street names come from the English Lake District. The Lymington Colliery tunnel was in Lakelands, and coal went by horse-drawn skip along a skipway to the colliery railway in Cardiff South. The Geographical Names Board set the suburb boundaries on 31 May 1991. A house built when the estate opened is now more than 35 years old, so check what is installed before a renovation.
