Local context

Garden Suburb: what to know before a plumbing job

Garden Suburb takes its name from the garden city movement, then in vogue in England, and council notes it never obtained a station. Its first subdivision, declared on 8 January 1918, covered the Prospect Road, Park Road and Marshall Street area. Council records orchards on the western slopes toward Cardiff in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and market gardens in the valley by the creek. Landcom now plans 105 homes at Sugarwood off Myall Road, with about 28 hectares kept as bushland. It describes the neighbourhood as all electric, so hot water there is planned as electric rather than gas.
