Local context

Cardiff Heights at a glance, for plumbing work

High Terrace was the early name for Cardiff Heights, and Illawong was another that fell by the wayside. Lake Macquarie City Council’s history entry describes a neighbourhood about 1 km east of Cardiff, with boundaries defined on 31 May 1991 and suburb status assigned on 10 August 2001. It gives 1927 for reticulated water and 1945 for sewerage, citing "Pipelines and People", the Hunter District Water Board’s 1967 history. A house older than both dates is worth checking at its supply connection and at its sewer junction.
