Local context

Windale: what to know before a plumbing job

Windale began as Surprise Township in 1892, named for its isolated and unexpected location, and the Housing Commission opened a development there in 1949, when its first tenant moved in on 18 April. The council’s history counts 813 Housing Commission homes by 1966 and records sewerage for 1959. In the 2021 Census, 78.2% of occupied homes were rented. A house from the early 1950s is worth checking for how its drains were connected when the sewer arrived, and a rental needs the owner’s or agent’s approval before any work is booked.
