Local context

Tingira Heights at a glance, for plumbing work

Tingira Heights was Violet Town until 1965, when the progress association voted for a new name that remembers HMAS Tingira, Australia’s first naval training ship. The first subdivision was surveyed in 1887 and appears to have been unsuccessful, and houses did not begin to go up until the 1960s. Town water arrived in 1955, but council’s history puts sewerage at 1977, more than twenty years later. A house built in the 1960s predates that sewer, so how its drains meet the sewer connection is worth checking.
