Local context

Plumbing in Redhead: the local picture

Council’s history calls Redhead a mining town without a hotel, and says its name comes from the reddish colour of the headland seen from the sea. The first school opened in 1908, the surf life saving club was founded that December, and in the 1920s the area held only forty houses. A home building boom followed in the late 1940s, with thirty-four houses built in 1949. Council gives 1929 for the water supply and 1964 for sewerage. A cottage built before 1929 predates the town water supply, so its supply line from the street is worth a look before a renovation.
