Local context

Martinsville: what to know before a plumbing job

Martinsville is named for William and Sarah Martin, who came from Ireland and settled in the 1860s. Its post office opened in 1889 as Dora Creek, became Brush in 1892 and took the Martinsville name on 1 January 1894, and timber later gave way to dairying and citrus. All 132 occupied dwellings were separate houses at the 2021 Census. Council’s flooding history lists Martinsville among the localities in the Dora Creek catchment. Blocks cut from pioneer-era grants and from a 1998 subdivision on Geerings Road are decades apart in age, so how each property is supplied and drained has to be established one by one.
