Local context

Plumbing in Eraring: the local picture

The decision to build Eraring Power Station was made in 1973 and the station was finished on 17 April 1984. Council’s history entry says few workers settled in Eraring because the State Electricity Commission had bought much of the area for the station and its buffer zone. Before that it was farm blocks sold from 1910, with electric light from 1936 and water from 1941. NSW Government mapping puts part of Eraring inside the West Lake mine subsidence district, where building or extending a house needs Subsidence Advisory NSW approval before work starts.
