Local context

Plumbing in Marks Point: the local picture

Marks Point is named after Charles Marks, whose orchard grew oranges and pineapples, and its first subdivisions came in 1902 and 1909. The suburb sits on the low-lying sand barrier between Lake Macquarie and the Pacific, so council’s Marks Point and Belmont South Local Adaptation Plan of March 2016 aims to raise land to at least 1.5 m AHD over time. The matching development plan permits up to one metre of fill on flood control lots, with stormwater captured on the site and working connections kept to water, sewer and stormwater. On a filled lot, drain and sewer levels are worth settling before the fill goes in.
