Local context

Holmesville: what to know before a plumbing job

Holmesville began in 1898, when Joseph Holmes divided 10 acres of his grant into 250 allotments and sold them for 20 pounds each. Council’s history entry gives 1902 for the water supply and notes the post office was called Estelville until 1968. A Lake Macquarie planning amendment published on 30 May 2025 extended the West Wallsend Heritage Conservation Area to include parts of Holmesville. Before moving a hot water unit or flue to a spot the street can see, ask council whether those heritage controls apply to the house.
