Local context
William Nord was among the first European landowners here, and his farm and orchard had a wharf that ferries used to carry miners to Catherine Hill Bay. A provisional school opened in 1901, the post office in 1916 and a subdivision was declared in 1924. A 1992-93 heritage study for Lake Macquarie council recorded the wharf as said to be an original ferry wharf, rebuilt after a fire. The 2021 Census counted 63 unoccupied private dwellings and 341 occupied ones. Where a house has sat empty for weeks, slow leaks and an idle hot water unit are worth checking.
