The suburb
Gorokan began as a holiday spot. The Quoy family bought land here in 1923 and built holiday homes to rent. It is now one of the larger suburbs on the lakes: the 2021 Census counted about 8,600 residents in about 4,000 dwellings. Toukley Bridge joins it to Toukley on the eastern side of the channel.
